God has a plan, an eternal plan. Some of His plan is revealed to us in the Bible but a large part of His plan is not revealed. Theologians call this the secret plan of God. What career you or I should follow or whom we should marry is not to be found in the Bible. But the Bible does give us principles for discerning God’s will in these kinds of matters. There is another aspect of this secret will of God that we must consider. Naomi, in the book of Ruth, is a very good example of it, that is, the bitter providence of God. Sometimes terrible things happen to God’s people. At times there seems to be no rhyme or reason why. It is at these times our faith in God's control and His love are severely tested.
