Boaz demonstrates for us the idea of a type. A type is an Old Testament foreshadowing of a New Testament reality. Of course, by this, we do not mean to imply that Boaz was not a real man or that this narrative is not historical. I mean, instead, that God has so orchestrated events in history that something that happened thousands of years ago may be used to point directly to a new revelation from God in Jesus Christ.
