The Church In Waiting
July 12, 2020 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: ACTS, Continuing the Work of Jesus
Topic: Discipleship, God's Will, Obedience to God Scripture: Acts 1:12–26
How is the church in this age to seek and know the will of Christ her Lord? In the account before we are told of Judas’ abandonment of his office and the selection of another to replace him as an apostle.
The disciples had witnessed Jesus ascend bodily into heaven and now they are gathered back in Jerusalem to carry on the work of the church, as their Lord had commanded. Immediately the question of Judas was a prayerful concern. Judas lost his office, not because of death but because of betrayal. When the apostles died they were not replaced.
The church gathers we are told, to persevere in prayer. Doubtless, this is one of the items they were seeking the Father about. How the church received the direction from God is instructive for us. As we study this account in the Word let’s give care to observing their godly humility and order in the work of the gospel.
