The Ascension of Christ

July 5, 2020 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: ACTS, Continuing the Work of Jesus

Topic: Christmas, Incarnation, Jesus Scripture: Acts 1:9–11

Where is Jesus now? What is He doing? Is He a disembodied spirit or does He have a body? Does it even matter? I want to speak to you today about an aspect of the gospel that receives little attention but holds great implications for our salvation. It is a sad commentary that must be corrected that the Scriptures predicted it, the Apostles witnessed it, and the early church fathers defended it against the gnostics but the modern church knows little about the ascension of her Savior!

The ascension is a part of the gospel.

1 Timothy 3:14–16 I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, [15] if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. [16] Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness:

He was manifested in the flesh,

vindicated by the Spirit,

seen by angels,

proclaimed among the nations,

believed on in the world,

taken up in glory. (ESV)
