The Apostle’s pattern is that he addresses those who are to submit to authority first and then those who are to lead. Notice the pattern: wives then husbands, children then parents, servants than masters. The proper honor and humility within the Christian home is an important aspect of living in a way that commands the gospel and brings about godly harmony within the family, which is, after all, God’s creation.
We must also understand that those who are the leaders are to be “servants-leaders.” With this teaching, we must remember Jesus words regarding those who are the greatest in the kingdom of God are servants of all. The Bible never approves of tyranny. Christian husbands, parents, and masters are to be humble, imperfect, servant-leaders under God. Therefore, Scripture is not setting up tyranny and servitude but the loving use of honor and humility that produces godly gospel harmony within the Christian home.
Let’s consider what God’s Word says to Christian wives and Christian husbands about submitting to the rule of Christ the King.
