John 1:6-13 Jesus Light Of The World

September 10, 2017 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: The Gospel of John, Life In God

Topic: Jesus Christ, Messiah, Salvation Scripture: John 1:6–13

Often in times of disaster and pain, there are those who say, “Where is God? Why doesn’t he do something? Doesn’t he see all of the evil and injustice in this world?” The answer is before us John 1:9-13. God knows better than anyone what is going on, and where it began.

The Bible teaches that all mankind is under sin. This is a spiritual condition. It is referred to in the Bible as “being in darkness,” or “being spiritually dead.” John uses God’s creation of light and life at the creation as a foundation to show that the new creation is likewise from lifeless darkness to light and life (Genesis 1:1-5 & 3:1-24). Similarly, when a person’s sins are forgiven by God he/she is said to now be “in the light,” or to be “alive.” Consider what the Bible says about the condition of man.
