We’ve made it! We’ve made it to Advent! - the blessed Christmas season! It’s the ideal time for some light- God’s light in Jesus! It’s the perfect time to rediscover Christmas because no matter how troubling the times or how heavy our hearts may be, there is good news. The greatest news! Long ago, the angels proclaimed on the night of Jesus’s birth: "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in clothes and lying in a manger. ”Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests. (Luke 2:10-14) This is the news of the arrival (advent) of Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God. This is the news that drives away fear and doubt.

Advent is when we rediscover the hope, peace, joy, and love in Jesus Christ himself as we celebrate His first coming.

Put away your anxiety, uncertainty, and pain. Turn from sin and dis- belief to faith and hope in the knowledge and trust that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world (1 John 13-16). Forget about the holiday stress and pressure of our culture. They do not know our God.

The tradition of Advent Celebration is the weekly lighting of the candles on the Advent Wreath. An advent Wreath is a circular evergreen wreath representing God’s unending love for us. The lighting of five candles throughout the season means Jesus coming to a world lost in darkness. Isaiah 9:2 says, "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.”

Merry Christmas, Pastor Scott
