A popular myth these days is the belief in the moral judgment of history, that somehow “history,” collected and written by sinful men, has some objective independent power or authority to pass down to us a judgment upon someone or some event. It is true that the passage of time, cooler heads, and new perspectives can bring to light hidden motivations and facts that help us discern the truth more readily. But, as helpful as this is, it is not judgment; and neither does it mean that all will know and adhere to the evidence. Sometimes, in a fallen world, a lie is more popular and has more support than the truth. Why do good things happen to bad people? Who can judge or fix this?
