If we are not careful to learn all that Solomon is teaching us about wisdom from God we may wrongly conclude that all is positive and wisdom will solve all our problems in this life. But, we would be tragically wrong. Wisdom has limitations. Wisdom cannot solve all of the problems we face. In Proverbs chapter 1:7 Solomon instructed his son about how he might obtain wisdom. He writes, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Furthermore, he warned that “Fools despise knowledge.” From this, we see that there are two parts to the wisdom of God. The first is that to fear God is to obey His Commandments and walk in His ways. This part shapes the conscience by sharpening our understanding of the distinctions between good and evil and right and wrong — what God hates and loves.
