Topic: Psalms, Worldview, Philosophy, Culture Scripture: Psalm 74:1–23

Psalm 74 is a psalm of lament over the destruction of the temple by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. In its twenty-three verses, the writer, Asaph, sinks to the depths of despair over the loss of the beauty of all that God had given and rises to the glorious throne of God having been stripped of all else. Asaph calls on God to do now what He did at the time of creation, that is, to command order from disorder and submission to His rule out of chaos.

God is not the author of confusion, the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians. Destruction and death had come from the invasion and it has left Asaph’s heart confounded. He seeks God to restore His rule and His worship.
