Is it possible to attend services regularly, observe certain rituals, profess religion and still forget God? Is possible to appear to be a religious person but actually be in opposition to worship? If so, how does this happen? Are their certain beliefs, ideologies, and actions that cause one to live in this delusion?

Psalm 50 addressed this sort of self-righteous delusion that can happen in the hearts and minds of professing Christians. As always, at the heart of the problem is how one perceives God. If we believe the wrong things about God then we will be wrong about everything else. Of all people in the world, Christians should know that God is the Judge of all. Every person who has ever lived will stand before His judgment throne. What we often do not know is that God’s judgment begins with us. We are the people from every tribe and language of the world that have submitted to His judgment. But if we begin to treat God as if He is of little or no consequence, then we have entered the realm of the warnings of Psalm 50. The apostle Peter mentions this in his first letter. 1 Peter 4:17–19 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? [18] And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” [19] Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.
