Topic: Genesis, Israel, Jews, Abraham Scripture: Genesis 25:24–34
Hudson Taylor lived for some time on oatmeal and rice with occasional variations for the sake of the work of the Gospel. On the other hand, Charles Darwin was sent to Cambridge University to prepare for the Anglican Ministry but spent most of his time playing sports and later said that “It was a waste of time.”
The story of Jacob and Esau had differing desires. Esau was fleshly all he wanted was his immediate wants fulfillment. He was unspiritual and undisciplined. He lived for his pleasures and for his personal fulfillment. Jacob, on the other hand, wanted that which was of lasting value. Though he was not such a stellar example of manhood as was Esau, Jacobs was more disciplined, thoughtful, being interested in the spiritual things of God.
