Consider the rich teaching the Lord Jesus was offering to these people, whom He knew and loved. Teaching that they were granted the privilege of hearing for the first time in history! Nazareth was nothing more than a village! Jesus could have announced Himself in Galilee, Capernaum, or even in Jerusalem but He chose His hometown and the people He knew and loved. Consider the rejection Jesus must have felt as he looked into the faces of that congregation. These were familiar faces! People whom He knew and that knew Him. Could the Lord have looked across that hall and remembered, there’s Benjamin and his wife Elizabeth — I made his plow; and, oh, there is Jeremiah the widower —- I built his barn. I see Judah, my boyhood chum, is here too! Very few, if any of these, benefited from the Lord’s Words. Mark tells us that Jesus “marveled at their unbelief.”
