A lot of people have come and gone throughout history but no one has made the impact that Jesus Christ has. He only lived thirty-three years here on earth. His public ministry lasted merely three and a half years. This man Jesus and his disciples “turned the world upside down.” What child was this that His birth was announced by the arrival of a special star and heralded by angels? What child is this that magi would follow that special star for hundreds of miles to find Him? What child was this that shepherds would leave their flocks and fields to come and worship Him? What child is this that King Herod would kill so many innocent children in hopes of eliminating this one? During his brief ministry, John the Baptist gave a blazing testimony about Jesus (John 1:14-18). "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. [15] (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) [16] For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. [17] For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. [18] No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known. (ESV)" Consider John’s testimony: John bear witness of him, and cried, saying, this was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me; for He was before me. At first glance one may not notice the magnitude of John’s message. Let’s consider a few of the facts that are implicit in John’s statement.
