Unfortunately, the disciples here are not tracking with the Lord’s heart for ministry. We have witnessed that this is too often the case with them. When the Lord desires to feed the masses they cannot figure out how. When He reaches out to the woman at the well, they are concerned with mealtime and why He is talking to a woman. When He moves toward the cross, they argue over who will sit next to His throne in the Kingdom! We may be tempted to agree with these observations about Jesus’ disciples but the reality is that the Lord’s disciples today are not any better at keeping their hearts and minds from pursuing selfish or secondary things rather than being ready to follow Him. True faith cannot be separated from its object -- Jesus Christ.
