So that's in the Bible? Does God actually dislike something? Isn't God loving? In the Book of Proverbs, we read a section that may shock you. Perhaps you are one of those unfortunate Christians who have been brought into the Faith with an over-emphasis upon the love of God. You have been subjected to a sermon upon a sermon that singled out God’s amazing love from His other attributes, more specifically God’s holiness, righteousness, justice, and purity. God is love, as the Apostle John writes in his first epistle but He is also holy as we are told in the Apostle Peter’s first epistle where he quotes from the Book of Leviticus. If you have had a steady diet of this lopsided theology, discovering in the Bible that there are some things that God Himself hates will no doubt be a surprise to you.

Nevertheless, here it is things that God says He hates. Scripture says these are an abomination to the Lord because they are an offense to His holiness. The Christian Standard translation renders the word “abomination” as “detestable” to God. The presence of such in the Holy Scriptures should inform our hearts and minds regarding the holiness and love of God. His amazing love is holy. God’s love is not promiscuous or permissive; His love is not opposed to or opposite of His righteousness.
