It's Time for a Gospel Check-up
Series: 1 Corinthians, The Cross and Its Community Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:1
The Christian's joy and peace spring from the Truth of Jesus Christ, from His gospel. If we want to know Him and to receive Him, and live in His joy, then the message we receive and believe must be the real one. You’ve seen it. An athlete becomes proficient in his craft, and he experiences success in many of his competitions. With this success often comes overconfidence. And with overconfidence comes carelessness, which in turn can make the skilled competitor forget the fundamentals taught him at the beginning of his career. Even accomplished athletes have to be brought back to the fundamentals. Christians often need to return to the essentials of the Faith, to the essentials of Jesus' gospel. From the very first word in chapter 15, Paul answers the basic question, What is the gospel? Verses 3 and 4 show that the gospel of Jesus Christ is based on two realities: the Scriptures and history. The gospel is Jesus Christ’s life and work as the Son of God come to save us from our sins through His sacrificial death, burial, and resurrection.
