Superior Worth of Love | Why Love is Greater than All the Gifts
Series: 1 Corinthians, The Cross and Its Community Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1–13, James 1:2– 2:4
The teaching to the Corinthians is that some of them needed to learn that simply possessing and operating a spiritual gift, such as languages, prophecy, knowledge, or miracles, is no proof of the presence of and expressions of genuine Christian love. A believer may exercise spiritual gifts with excellence and still be subversive and slanderous toward fellow members of the body of Christ. But, when genuine love is present with the use of the gifts, Christ sees that it is flowing not from pride but from an honest compassion for others.
