The Pomp and Power of a Persian Ruler | Have the Chosen Been Rejected?

Did you know that the name of God is not found in the Book of Esther? In fact, God is not mentioned one time through the entire narrative. To modify Matthew Henry’s memorable comment about the absence of the name of God in Esther, “Though the name of God be not in it, the finger of God is all over it.” Remember last week when we set the context for Esther by showing that she and Mordecai were part of the thousands of Jews who were in exile in the Persian Empire at that time. If you and I were descendants of a people who had been conquered by our enemies and dragged away to be enslaved, while our God seemed to do nothing, would it be encouraging to your faith if, despite God’s chastening silence, He is not inactive for our protection and His promise? This is where the Book of Esther comes into its own
