Spiritual Gifts in the Church, pt.1
Series: 1 Corinthians, The Cross and Its Community Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:1–3, Ephesians 4:4–13, Romans 12:3–8
How can we discern when a person is being influenced by the Spirit of Christ or by other forces? Paul gives us the answer in verses 2 and 3, “Therefore I want you to understand…” This beloved is discernment, and we must exorcise it. We are free to and encouraged to exercise discernment in the Christian Faith. Christian is not a synonym for gullible! We have been given the doctrines of Jesus Christ, and they are to guide us to Him and away from anything that is not from Him. This is the Lordship of Jesus applied in our lives. That is what the Apostle means when he writes, “…No one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says ‘Jesus is accursed.’ The Spirit of God is the Divine Administrator of the gifts to the Church, and He will never lead anyone against Jesus Christ (v.3a).
