What Is Christian Liberty and Why It Matters
Series: 1 Corinthians, The Cross and Its Community Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:23– 11:1, Psalm 24:1, John 13:34
From the very first question of the Westminster Shorter Catechism, which reads: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever,” to dedicating buildings and services, we often proclaim that we are doing things for the glory of God. Do we really know what that means? We quote the aforementioned text from Scripture (10:31), but have we read the context in which it was written? Once we grasp Paul’s conclusion on this subject of meat offered to idols, we understand why he took so long to develop the argument. We have been studying this subject for some time now. It becomes clear that the underlying issue is not meat but the proper understanding and practice of Christian freedom of conscience.
