A Short Prayer for the Long Game | Paul's Prayer for the Church

Series: 1 Corinthians, The Cross and Its Community Scripture: 1 Corinthians 1:4–9, Ephesians 4:6–13

How many times have you sat in a worship service or attended a sermon when though there were prayers offered to God, in Christ’s name but once your eyes closed your mind left the building? You were in the posture of prayer but your mind and heart were somewhere else. Maybe it was at work where you had a big project coming up. Or, perhaps you mind going to a vacation spot. Or, perhaps, like me, you were struggling with sleep. If so, it is unfortunate because prayer is one of the most important parts of worship and service to God. If the Corinthians simply blew through Paul’s opening prayer for them because they were in a hurry to get to the meat of his letter, then they would have missed a great deal! This prayer is not just a simple complimentary salutation. It is the goal to which the whole epistle is aiming!
