Are you sure you want to lead in the church? What does it mean to lead? Who has the ability to do the most good and the most harm in every society? I say to you; it is not the one holding the sword, the gun, the stick, or even the money. The one holding the most authority for good or ill in every society, including the church of Jesus Christ, is the teacher. This is true because the teacher wields the power of the tongue. The teacher shapes minds, hearts, and actions through the use of the most powerful thing in the natural world - words. “But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” ― George Orwell, 1984 But, in our society, we regard as holding authority those who possess the perks: position, popularity, power, and possessions. Little regard is given to character and content. But as usual, the world has it backwards. In the kingdom of God, Christ calls to lead His flock those who have godly character and Scriptural content. The saddest part of this is not that the world has it wrong; but that the churches of Christ often have this wrong. Over the centuries many churches have come to position authority in the church to decision making and control rather than teaching and living. Join Pastor Scott for this informative message about the great responsibility of leading God's flock from James chapter 3. Having trouble understanding the Bible?
