Identity is certainly part of the zeitgeist these days. I imagine the words identity and identify are some of the most searched and most used words on the internet in 2021! Of course, a large portion of that discussion is inconsistent with God’s created order and divine plan for men and women. People are identifying with a lot of things in our culture. It’s stylish, vogue, and hip to connect one’s self with a product, a brand, and/or a movement. This is called “identifying” oneself. Those of us who study and watch such phenomena recognize that this frenzy to find one’s identity or define one’s identity within the stated goals and preferences of a subculture or more or less radical movement increases as western culture rapidly succumbs to the centuries-old onslaught against it thus leaving individuals isolated from normal and healthy groups that have historically grounded us. I refer to the traditional marriage, the family, the church, and local and national bodies. How do you identify as a Christian? Do you understand your new identity in Jesus Christ? Join Pastor Scott as he expounds this critical but controversial passage from the Letter to the Galatians.
