How To Be Blessed By God | What Does It Mean?

Topic: Psalms, Prayer, God's Presence, Depression, Loneliness Scripture: Psalm 119:1–8

Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible. It has been divided into 176 verses which are grouped in sections of 8 verses, each section beginning headed by the appropriate letter of the Hebrew alphabet. In fact, this is where we get our English word “alphabet.” The English word “alphabet” is simply the first two letters of the Hebrew alphabet placed together to form a word, “aleph” and “beth.” All 22 characters of the Hebrew alphabet are used in order. Each verse within its section begins with the corresponding letter.

It is thought that, perhaps, this structure was used in ancient Israel to teach children the Hebrew alphabet, as well as the importance of Holy Scripture. The Scriptures are mentioned in all 176 verses of Psalm 119. So, it is easy to see what the major theme is for this psalm. Verse 22 is arguably the only verse in the entire psalm that does not mention the Scriptures.
