The Prophecies & The Purpose of the King's Coming

December 27, 2020 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: The Coming King, Prophecies & Promises

Topic: Christmas, Incarnation, Jesus Scripture: Psalm 45:6–8, Psalm 40:6–8

We have said that the coming deliverer would save his people. We’ve shown how Jesus is the promised deliverer. And we’ve shown that he would be a king and as such will rule. But, we must not make the mistake of missing the purpose of his coming. At Christmas, we sing of Jesus as the king, and rightly so, but we must remember that he was born to die. My desire is not to quench your Christmas excitement but to deepen it. When we think of the babe in the manger, let us look forward thirty-three years to the cross. The Jewish people, especially their leaders, had a selective memory of the Scriptures as well. They were only considering the “glory” passage regarding the coming king and the kingdom. This was true, at least, of the few who were even looking for the Messiah.
