Christ v. The Occult

October 25, 2020 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: ACTS, Continuing the Work of Jesus

Topic: Worship, Evangelism, Church Growth, Outreach Scripture: Acts 8:7–25

This section begins with verse 5. We see that when Phillip preaches Jesus Christ many who believe are delivered from demonic possession. For hundreds of years, Samaria was dominated by idolatry and false religion. The result was that Satan had been given almost full entrance to the people of that region.

The gospel is the power of God for salvation. As the gospel entered first through the preaching Christ Himself, and now through Phillip, the deacon, the evil was being pushed back by the light of God’s Word.

One man stood above all others in this region. His name was Simon. Simon was a sorcerer. He used occult magic to amaze the people and gain personal influence over them. He even said that his power came from God. But it was a lie.

Let’s consider this morning the deadly and dangerous lie of the occult and how Christ can deliver from it.
