Peace In The Heart, Pt. 2

March 29, 2020 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: PHILIPPIANS, Radical Joy In Christ

Topic: Spirituality, Growth, Sanctification, Holiness Scripture: Philippians 4:4–7

The sections of this chapter on peace are not to be taken as separately, rather as interlinking like a chain, a chain of peace. One cannot have peace in his heart without seeking to be a peacemaker in the church.

When we come to the subject of peace in our hearts, Paul does not give us three mere points. Instead, he gives us a philosophy of life, a Christian philosophy, a Biblical philosophy. One nation does not attempt to overtake another without a plan of attack; neither should we try to live our lives without a thought. This is the Apostle’s point, I think, he is saying to them,  “Do not let life happen to you which will cause you to be run down by sinful humanity and a sinful world. Instead, live life and overcome the world through Lord Jesus Christ.” Jesus said, “I’ve come to bring you life and that more abundantly.” He told His disciples not to fear because He had overcome the world. This is not the “Health and Wealth Gospel” or Positive Thinking. Paul is referring to building your life upon the foundation of Jesus Christ. It is not positive thinking but it is living by faith, “The just shall LIVE by faith,” Scripture says. This is not referring to our eternal salvation but also living here and now in light of our eternal salvation.
