Do you believe that evil is real? Is there such a person as “Satan?” Paul warns the Colossians about a spiritual war that is raging for their souls. He does not tell them this to scare them but to instruct them. How can Christians safely navigate a hostile world system and a powerful evil army as they seek to live for God’s glory?
The Apostle Paul is reminding the Colossians of what it means to be a Christian. Since its beginning, the Colossian church had done well but at the time of the writing of this epistle, they had begun experience the entrance of false teaching. In the text before us, Paul calls the Colossians to press onward to maturity in Christ. It is through maturity in Christ that they will be able to avoid the snares of the Evil One.
There are three things that the Apostle tells them that they should be pursuing in their lives that will bring about spiritual maturity and enable them to stand against the warfare of the enemy of our Lord.
