Finishing the Work of Jesus, 3/3, Paul’s Strength for Ministering to the Church

Topic: Unity, Gifts, Growth, Ministry Scripture: Colossians 1:18– 2:7

Is the church supposed to be easy? Hasn’t popular church ministry theories that have appeared in the last five decade subtly played to our desire to make ministry easy? Is that the image we’re given in Scripture? Does the Bible present life and ministry for the Christian in this present world to be easy? Paul speaks frankly with the Colossian church. Ministry can be hard. It’s hard work and its hard on the spirit. How do we make progress in this great spiritual work in which we find ourselves? The Apostle Paul in the passage before us explains to the Colossian church his labor for them in an effort to explain to them that God works powerfully through the gospel from beginning to the end. They have no need for esoteric mystical knowledge to complete their spirituality. The gospel of Christ is all that is needed. From this passage, we are given insight into the inner workings of the gospel in the church.
