Psalm 34 The Poor Man's Psalm

January 9, 2019 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: The Book Of Psalms, Songs & Prayers to the King

Topic: Psalms, Citizenship, Kingdom Of God Scripture: Psalm 34

The title of this Psalm says, “A Psalm of David when he changed his behavior before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed.” This story is recorded in I Samuel 21. This was clearly one of the lowest points in David’s life. How humiliating! – that he felt that he had to act insane to Abimelech in order to escape capture and possible death. Some scholars say that David had even resorted to helping himself in this situation rather than seeking the help of God. While I’m sure there is some truth to this I’m also sure that David, in the way that a wayward child can and does, sought the Lord. I believe this Psalm is a testimonial to that very fact. Many times we are not in perfect tune with our Lord but nevertheless when that one lost lamb cries the Great Shepherd goes immediately after it. After all, we are still His sheep.
