The Song of the Angels - Song of Joy, Part 4
December 23, 2018 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: Carols From the First Christmas
Topic: Christmas, Incarnation, Jesus Scripture: Luke 2:13–14
This time of year we sing, “Peace on earth, good will toward men” while people fight over dolls and cell phones in department stores, and while our nation is at war. Are these words real? Is there anything to this announcement?
In the verses before us, we read of the song of the angels that announced the birth of the Savior-King in Bethlehem. We must admit that these words are mostly taken for granted. They are often treated as window-dressing in the “Christmas Story.” I submit to you that God would not have prompted His angelic messengers with a useless message. If angels were summoned to make the announcement of the incarnation of the Son of God then every word that proceeded from their mouths is packed with meaning.
Let’s consider this song carefully today.
