John 17:6-19 Jesus’ High-priestly Prayer, Part 2, His Prayer for the Disciples
September 16, 2018 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: The Gospel of John, Life In God
Topic: Jesus Christ, Messiah, Salvation Scripture: John 17:6–19
How do you determine who you are? What determines how you see yourself? What inherent concepts guide your decisions? In other words, where do you get your identity? Some build their identity around clubs, heritage, education, military service, music, or philosophy. Jesus’ prayer for his disciples calls us to build our identity in Him.
The first thing to do is to look to Christ, remember His great love and His death. The second thing you must do is to meditate on His purpose and plan. Our spiritual vitality does not flow from within ourselves or from our personal ambitions. Spiritual life comes from our exalted and interceding King.
This prayer for the disciples begins with them but quickly includes all disciples, in all times.
