Introduction To Thirsting For God, Session 1

December 6, 2017 Speaker: Pastor Scott Slaughter Series: Thirsting For God, Learning To Worship God Biblically

Topic: Worship, Evangelism, Church Growth, Outreach Scripture: Psalm 42:1–2

What does it mean to thirst for God? To answer that question we need to give special consideration to some pertinent texts of Scripture. In Genesis 16 Abram’s runaway servant Hagar met God at a spring of water in the desert region of Shur. God revealed Himself to her in a time of desperate need. He spoke to her commanding her to return to Sarai and promising her that He knew her afflictions and that He would bless her offspring. The Israelites were refreshed in the desert heat by water that miraculously gushed from a rock after it had been struck by Moses God’s prophet (Exodus 17). In verse 6 God assures Moses of His presence, “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb, and you shall strike the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people shall drink.” Jesus confronted the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well offering her “living water” to quench the thirst of her soul (John 4). Thirst and our need to worship God is a reoccurring theme in Scripture. Consider these passages from the Psalms.
