Excited to Be at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church

My family and I would like to thank everyone for the very warm welcome we have received since our arrival to Lexington! Coming to shepherd this congregation is such a blessing. We are thankful to our God for calling us to Coggins to lead in His Kingdom work. If you've been able to attend the Sunday evening Bible study times since we arrived, you know that 1 Thessalonians 3:6-13 is a very special Scripture passage that the Lord laid upon my heart to share with the church family about the love that God has already placed in our hearts for you all here at Coggins. Let me encourage you to take a moment and read that passage as from me to you.

In the last two Sunday evening talks, we've taken the opportunity to share four core values that will become more and more prominent in our lives, church, and ministry. These are simply core values that God's Word teaches that we need to cling to in order to be successful in His kingdom work. Let me briefly list them for you with a Scripture passage to help us all become familiar with them.

1. The Sufficiency of the Scripture. We discussed 2 Timothy 3:1 - 4:5 & Joshua 1:8 as we unpacked this important core value. Perhaps this is new to you so let me just say a brief word of explanation. The word "sufficiency" has special reference to the belief that not only is Scripture the inspired Word of God, but it is also sufficient to guide our church, shape our lives, and lead us to the only salvation for our souls. The Bible does not need anything to complete it. We should seek to understand it and obey it.

2. The Centrality of the Gospel (Romans 1:14-18). The gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God unto salvation and therefore should be at the center of everything we do. We desire to see men, women, boys, and girls from every tribe and kindred turn from their sins to Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and to teach them to follow Him all their lives.

3. The Importance of Worship & Prayer (John 4 & Ephesians 6:10-20). It's all about worship! Jesus told the woman at the well, "The Father is seeking such to worship Him." We should make every effort to be a people who are intentional about worship and prayer.

4. The Foundation of the Family & the Local Church (Deuteronomy 6:1-9 & Ephesians 5:22 - 6:4; Matthew 28:19- 20). God established the family and the local church to accomplish His kingdom work and when these two are organized and functioning according to His Word, we have His blessing.

These Biblical core values will lead us to strengthen many facets of what we are doing. They will strengthen our bond, our belief, and our basis to speak the message of the true God and Savior Jesus Christ to our families, friends, and community.

We are so grateful to the Pastor Search Team for all of their hard work, to all of those that came by the house to help in any way, and to all of you for making us feel so welcome!! We are excited to be here and to serve our glorious Lord together with you!
