What does John the Baptist have to do with Christmas? Unfortunately, this is part of the problem with the message of Christmas in our culture. We have a lot of festivities and very little connection to the gospel. John’s message ought to be the message and theme of Christmas. In the previous study, we took notice in Scripture that God the Father was working His sovereign plan in spite of all the efforts of the Serpent. This morning we end our advent series in Matthew’s Gospel with this same theme, “A voice crying in the wilderness of man’s sin and the Serpent’s ruthless deception, announcing the arrival of the promised Seed of the woman.
