One very neglected aspect of the Christian life is patiently enduring trying circumstances and people. Pop-Christianity teaches that Jesus delivers from all our problems and smooths the way for us to have a happy and fulfilled life. But, authentic Christianity teaches us to pray that we might have peace in our lives but we will often be beset with suffering, trials, and even persecution to which we must respond in a way that glorifies God, and promotes the gospel to the lost. This means that we must patiently await vindication by God for the wrongs that are done to us as believers in Jesus Christ. Meanwhile, we must often bear up under persecution, affliction, and the "various trials" mentioned in chapter 1.
